January 27, 1981

Rowdy Roddy Piper wins his 1st U.S. Heavyweight Championship

Before becoming a big name in the World Wrestling Federation, Piper was still wrestling for the NWA (a company that has been around for over 60 years now).

Piper won the NWA U.S. Heavyweight Title from 5x Time NWA U.S. Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair

Piper would go on to hold the title for 37 1/2 weeks before losing the title to the late Wahoo McDaniel

and now, 28 years later, Piper is still in and out of the wrestling business and as for the U.S. Title it is now in the hands of Shelton Benjamin
